A few weeks ago, a fellow who works in construction told me people are building patio rooms and other back yard attractions like crazy right now. For many of us, our back yard is a haven during these restrictive times. Last night I walked outside as is my custom before bedtime, and I was fascinated by the reflection of the moon in our swimming pool. I’ve been inspired by things I see out back so many times.
One afternoon as we were sitting on the deck, I glanced at a succulent a friend made for me. It has a tiny figurine of a fairy nestled in the plant. A lizard was sitting on the edge of the pot, and my imagination ran away. It looked like the fairy was waiting to hop aboard the lizard’s back and take off. What a story you could make of that.
From snakes who visit and sometimes overstay their welcome to awesome sights in the night sky, we never know what we’ll find out back. In each house we’ve bought, we’ve tried to create back yard habitat for critters whose living space shrinks as more and more land is developed.
Sometimes I think those critters actually appreciate the accommodations.
