An ad for the Bradenton Blues Festival in Florida popped up on my Facebook feed, and I checked out the comments. Someone remarked the promo poster for the festival looked nice, and it happened that the artist who did the poster saw the comment too. The artist gave a link to his website, Mojohand, and I followed that. Talk about blues art. I was, as is sometimes said in the South, like a rabbit in a briar patch. Sometimes I have to reach deep inside my conscience to be fair. Right up front I’ll say I don’t care for Katy Perry’s music. Any of it. Perry just lost a lawsuit alleging copyright infringement for her song “Dark Horse.” I looked over her song and the song she allegedly ripped off. I think the court got the whole deal wrong. Continue reading “Did court get decision right in Katy Perry copyright suit for ‘Dark Horse’?”

Yesterday Rebecca did a solo show at Hemming Park in downtown Jacksonville. The day was hot, but shade from the trees and a gentle breeze made it comfortable. I met so many people as I did roadie duties, and every exchange was pleasant. I took note of all the different types of people there. The park is, like our country, a melting pot. After the performance ended, I witnessed something that touched me deeply. Continue reading “Key personal moment marks my visit to Hemming Park”
The Rolling Stones are expected to entertain approximately 50,000 people in Jacksonville (FL) tonight. It happened last night when Rebecca did music solo on the deck at Seven Bridges Grille and Brewery on Jacksonville’s southside. Just as she started a song, there was a pop. It was not a pretty pop. For a second, I thought she’d torched a guitar string. Then I saw the look on her face. Her first sound system, the one she bought when she started performing as a solo artist, had gone belly up. Continue reading “In memoriam: Let us now praise the Daysies’ Yamaha Stagepas 500”
