It never fails. At least one person, at almost every gig from among hundreds of gigs in a single year, will request a song. The most frequent request by far, regardless of the city or state they’re playing in, for our band is “Freebird”. It’s not on a popular list of karaoke songs, but another one Rebecca often plays is on it. “Friends in Low Places” is most definitely popular among all age groups, probably for one reason.
Garth Brooks’ “Friends” hit is an easy singalong. That’s the second most frequent request for Rebecca and Jennifer, and people just seem to love that song.
Wide Open Country has published a list 20 of the Best Country Karaoke Songs. Although the list is tailored for non-performers who enjoy taking the mic after working up courage naturally, or with a little help from certain beverages, it’s a great resource for any singer who performs country tunes.
Brooks’ song is top of the list.
Another favorite is “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood. I’m not wild about that song, but I do love George Strait’s ballad “Amarillo by Morning”.
There’s one song on the list that makes my skin crawl. “Fancy” by Reba McEntire is just one of those songs I can’t get through. Apparently many others disagree with me, and that’s great because music appreciation is purely subjective.
Check out the list, and see if one of your favorites made it. Otherwise, it’s a great resource for any musician who might have requests for a country tune.
