Odd Rod Borisade deserves the moniker ‘America’s Poet’ for many reasons. An astounding talent for presenting well-crafted poetry in spoken word has landed Rod on stages across the United States. Borisade also has a talent for putting a great event together. After last year’s success with ‘Mindblown’, Borisade is again bringing a variety-style show to Jacksonville.
Borisade’s lineup for Mindblown2 includes poetry, musical renderings in soul-pop-rock, and magic.
Odd Rod will deliver performance poetry guaranteed to keep you spellbound. His YouTube channel is replete with videos featuring poetry addressing the human condition. One of his many memorable works is an homage to the victims in the El Faro tragedy occurring after a hurricane hit the cargo ship near the Bahamas killing 33 crew members.
What sets Rod apart from many in the poetry world is that he takes his works directly to the people. He doesn’t have the cushion of a tenured university position—he lives in the same world you and I live in. Unlike many spoken word artists, however, Rod expertly crafts his work without relying on clichés or permitting the beat to usurp the craft.
Besides his talent with words, Borisade is also a photographer with an ability to translate light into memorable images.
Music for Mindblown2 will be presented by Radio Love, a Jacksonville group delivering a variety of songs in pop, rock, soul, and reggae.
Rounding out the program will be magic by The Mastersons. The duo’s website describes their art:
“With a combined 20 years of experience their show incorporates Dangerous Stunts, Beautiful Animals, Escapes, Comedy, and some of the most shocking Stage Illusions, into a very fast and edgy brand of magic, like you have never seen before.”
Mindblown2 is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 10, from 6:30-10 p.m. at Theatre Jacksonville (San Marco). Tickets in advance are $30, a very reasonable sum for the high quality performances guests will enjoy.
