Indie artist Tyler Childers’ album off to rollicking start

Childers' album Purgatory
Tyler Childers’ album ‘Purgatory’ is due out in August.

In June I wrote about indie music artist Tyler Childers’ new album Purgatory.

Childers’ album has just been released, and he must be smiling. Sturgill Simpson, who helped produce it, is probably smiling as well.

It’s been a long haul for this country artist who did gigs in a couple of states before seeing the kind of success most indie artists would like to have.

The fact he’s an independent makes the story even sweeter.

Saving Country Music reported:

Purgatory has debuted at #5 on the Billboard Country Album Sales chart that tracks pure sales of albums, as well as #17 on the Billboard Country Albums chart that factors in streaming along with sales data. Tyler also debuted #28 on the overall Billboard 200 Sales chart, and #1 on the New Artists chart.”

SCM approximated album sales about 5,500 and 6,000 streaming equivalents.

Simpson also did some vocals and guitar for the production.

It appears Childers’ tour is going very well too. On his Facebook page, he wrote:

“Our first Nashville residency gig at The Basement Nashville is officially sold out. Hop on tickets now for 9/18 and 9/25 while they’re still available.”

Childers’ had already released a couple albums and he earned his stripes performing in the South for years.

Hat tip to a job well done and success for another indie music artist.
